The novel by N. N. Kholodny “The End of St. Petersburg (Struggle of the Worlds)” is an apocalyptic picture of the collision of the Earth with a comet and the death of deserted St. Petersburg, written in imitation of the warning novels of H. Wells and C. Flammarion. A group of St. Petersburg townsfolk are experiencing dramatic events. The unusual figure of the main character - an employee of the railway board of Nikolai Nikolayevich, a smug vulgar who thinks more not about the impending disaster, but about his own stomach and another affair - gives the traditional “novel of disasters” unexpected satirical notes.
