After spending a whole year (1908-1909) in the virgin jungle of the Amazon, Thomas Whiffen, a member of the Royal Geographical Society, a member of the Royal Anthropological Society, published in 1915 the book “A Year Among the Cannibals. Northwestern Amazonia,” which added to the golden fund of literature on travel and exploration. Along with abundant factual material and subtle observations of the world of animals and plants, the author creates many vivid pictures of the tropical forest, describes the life of the Indian tribes he met: their way of life, culture, languages, belief system, features of interaction with each other and white people. More than a hundred years have passed since Whiffen returned from his journey through the region between the Issa and Zhapura rivers, but the book he wrote is still of great interest and scientific value to a wide range of readers. Like amber, it absorbed and forever preserved for us the memory of the almost extinct Amazonian tribes. The publishing layout of the book is preserved in PDF A4 format.
