In the life of the great scientist Vladimir Ivanovich Vernadsky there were two great loves. First love is a passion for science, for understanding the world. The second is love for his wife Natalya Egorovna, with whom they lived in perfect harmony for 56 years. The first constantly pushed Vernadsky to new discoveries, while the second did not allow his inquisitive mind to turn into dryness and indifference and only searches for previously unknown areas of science. His mind was always in harmony with a kind, warm heart, full of compassion and empathy for his neighbor. Science was not an end in itself, it was the road to an ideal world where there are no oppressed, slaves and injustice; knowledge of nature was a way to achieve internal perfection and harmony, in which all people would become brothers to each other not by blood, but by spirit. And at the same time, Vernadsky was a restless person; he could not calm down until the freedom that nature carries within itself spread to the world of people - the world of shackles and chains. He fought the cruelty of his era steadily and firmly, just as the earth – the element that Vernadsky personifies – fights with everything that is trying to conquer it.
