Little Charity Tiddler lives on the fourth floor of a London mansion. The calendar shows the end of the 19th century, and, therefore, all the goals in the life of the young lady are predetermined: a decent education - singing, dancing, music, drawing, embroidery - and a successful marriage. But at all times, girls are born who are more interested in studying the world around them and its inhabitants than in dressing up and hunting for husbands. Charity is one of those. From an early age she lives a lonely life, but not at all bored. After all, there are so many interesting things around: toads, mice, snails, hedgehogs, and birds... Thanks to curiosity, common sense and a sense of humor, as well as masterful use of watercolors, Charity becomes a children's writer and illustrator - like the famous Beatrix Potter, whose life inspired Marie -Aude Murail on the creation of this novel.
