A tender love for computers and computer games, strangely combined with a fear of these “time eaters,” was reflected in the story “The Chosen One of the Lord” by Alexander Laik, published in 1998 in the first and only issue of the magazine “Empire” ( Kyiv). It’s difficult to even say who exactly is the main character of this short story - is it a player sitting in front of a monitor screen, excitedly moving the mouse and pressing buttons, or a computer character who suddenly gains independence and free will? And is the difference between them really that big in the end?..
