Benoit Dutertre is the great-grandson of one of the presidents of France, a rapidly gaining popularity French writer, author of a dozen novels and stories, as well as essays that gave rise to long-term controversy. One of his early novels was noted by Milan Kundera, who has since closely followed his work.
Dutetre’s new novel “The Rebel” (2004) brilliantly confirms the writer’s masterly ability to balance between a modern parable and journalistic reportage. At the same time, the dynamics of the plot, observation and wit of the author force the reader to continuously follow the development of the plot, the unexpected escapades of the characters who seem to have stepped off the television screen. And this is not surprising, since the novel is dedicated to television. All the characters here are in one way or another connected with VSEKAKO - a super corporation whose branches have filled Europe.
