Eight leaders - from Lenin to Gorbachev - led our country from 1917 to 1991, from revolution to revolution. How did they manage to achieve supreme power? And why did some retain their positions until death, while others failed? Politics is a special art. You can’t learn it, you can’t master it at university, you can’t pick it up from your older comrades. Two reasons are pushing the politician upward. One is the thirst for power. Ambition and ambition are essential to politics. He must desire power and be able to handle it. The other is a kind of messianism, an inner confidence that he was born in order to accomplish something great, to change the fate of the country. Many gifted and popular politicians have tried to lead our country. But they didn't succeed. There was a lack of character and passion for gaining power. Lack of lust for power is an attractive character trait. But the rulers of a country like ours are made of a different, much tougher material.
