In 2008, Philip Shenon, a correspondent for The New York Times in Washington, received a call from one of those who in 1963 worked as a staff lawyer for the commission investigating the assassination of President Kennedy. “You have to tell our story,” the man said. “We are no longer young, but many of those who worked on the Warren Commission are still alive, and perhaps this is our last chance to talk about what really happened.” For five years, Shannon talked with participants in the investigation, with those who were somehow involved in it, and realized that a lot of evidence related to the case of the assassination of the president was hidden or destroyed by the FBI, CIA and other government agencies.
