This is the last book by Derek Jarman, an outstanding English director, artist, gardener, and activist for the rights of sexual minorities, who died of AIDS in 1994. When Jarman wrote this book, his illness had reached its final stages and he was losing his sight. And his vision turned to the book, because Chroma is a book about color, as the subtitle says. About white, black, red, yellow and green, as Jarman perceived them, and, of course, about blue. The text of the film "Blue" is included in one of the chapters of the book. "Chroma" is very autobiographical, and is thoroughly imbued with Jarman's personality, his memories, the history of his illness and his struggle with it, a struggle in which there was no hope of victory, reflections on the fate of his generation.
