The amazing versatility of the talents and creative interests of Boris Viktorovich Rauschenbach, accustomed to achieving heights in everything he did, makes us recall the names of thinkers of the Renaissance. He is cramped on the paths of science, he is constantly attracted by new horizons. Turning to art criticism and the history of icon painting, B.V. Rauschenbach introduced the methods of the exact sciences into his research, opening up new possibilities for interpreting material that had already been studied many times, the fundamental studies “Spatial constructions in ancient Russian painting” (1975), “Spatial constructions in painting” ( 1980), “Perspective systems in the fine arts. General theory of perspective” (1986) and many others - this is the mathematician’s professional contribution to the theory of artistic creativity. The book “The Geometry of the Picture and Visual Perception” (first publication - 1994) formulates the results of B.V. Rauschenbach’s many years of work.
