Grist is the first part of the Metaplanetary Trilogy. Here the reader is introduced to a turbulent and unusual world that follows many of the earlier traditions of space opera, but is also transformed, in the spirit of Strauss, Westerfeld and others, into a rich and fruitful post-cyberpunk and post-Vingean distant future. All the characters here have immeasurably surpassed man, while remaining human, even too human. And a war is brewing, which none of them can stop, no matter how pointless it may be to fight under such circumstances.
