The action-packed novel takes place in Pakistan, one of the most dangerous countries in the East. For the first time, the reader learns about those aspects of the activities of the Russian diplomatic mission that are usually not made public. What is more important: professional duty or nobility, the interests of the cause or devotion to one’s comrade? This difficult choice will have to be made by Ksan Remezov, a diplomat and intelligence officer who works “under the roof” of the Russian embassy in Islamabad. The plot intrigue is based on the investigation into the murder of a representative of the Chechen Republic who arrived in Pakistan. Ksan finds out that the crime is connected with the preparation of a major terrorist attack in Peshawar at the opening ceremony of the Pakistani-Russian Friendship Society. He manages to thwart the militants, but at the same time learns the bitter truth - the winner gets nothing.
