The book by the Siberian writer Anatoly Bayborodin includes the novel “The Late Son” and the story “The Owl Will Not Give Birth to a Falcon.” The novel is dedicated to the history of a Transbaikal village in the mid-twentieth century. The village boy Vanyushka Andrievsky finds himself in a cruel whirlpool of relations between three previous generations. The only thing that saves the boy from mental breakdown is that the world is not without righteous people, to whom his fragile soul is drawn. The story “The Owl Will Not Give Birth to a Falcon” is the story of a father and son rejected by the world. His father, the hunter Sila, at the end of the 19th century was expelled by the world of harsh, secretive Old Believers lurking in the Trans-Baikal taiga, and his son Gosha Khutsan was rejected by the world of rural residents in the mid-20th century, during times of militant atheism and collectivization.
