For several years now, archaeographer Alexey Rytin has been traveling through the lands of the Ottoman Empire. He repeatedly encounters confrontation with mysterious forces and attributes the persecution to the desire of a certain secret order to take possession of a mysterious stone tablet that was appropriated to them back in Russia. He does not strive for either struggle or secrecy, but his duty towards the family of his bride, Princess Anna Prozorovskaya, forces him to get to the bottom of things. At the same time, in St. Petersburg, Rytin’s classmate Andrei Muravyov is conducting his investigation into the strange routes of Russian medieval pilgrims to Egypt. By chance, he encounters resistance to his search, coming from the highest spheres, and asks Rytin to help him, since he is traveling through the lands he is looking for. Their correspondence disturbs Alexei at first, and yet he will have to figure out how his misadventures are connected with the search for the language of angels, which has been carried out by secret societies for centuries. However, ancient secrets are more dangerous than the current ones and can lead to a collision with a world that only the Book of Genesis remembers. The plot develops against the backdrop of the “Eastern Question” and the historical realities of the period 1830-1835.
