The proposed translation is the first attempt to address the work of Paul Orosius, a Roman Christian historian of the early 5th century, an associate and contemporary of the famous Augustine the Blessed. The work of Paul Orosius, which was a response to the capture and plunder of Rome by the Goths in 410, turned out to be a landmark work of early medieval Western European historiography, which collected the basic historical knowledge of a Christian of the 5th century. It was with Paul Orosius that the genre of world chronicle would acquire predominant importance in the historical literature of the Western Middle Ages. The translation of books I-VII “Histories against the Pagans” is accompanied by a detailed introductory article, detailed historical and historiographical commentary, as well as an index.
