Collins and Lapierre's book "O Jerusalem!" was published in 1972 and soon became a bestseller. The book tells about the events of the War of Independence, about the brutal, tragic struggle for Jerusalem and about the blockade of the city in 1947–1948. The authors tried to recreate the most objective picture of events. Before starting to write the book, they spent two years collecting material, getting acquainted with archival documents, talking with hundreds of people, meeting with Jewish leaders and Arab rulers and military commanders. All this allowed them to quite accurately convey the atmosphere of that time. Although the book cannot claim to be a scientific historical study, it nevertheless contains a lot of important and valuable information - new not only for the reader, but also for the participants in the events themselves. The Israelis, completely cut off from the Arab world during the War of Independence, read with particular interest the pages devoted to what was happening in the Arab camp.
