Vladimir Borisovich Isakov in 1990–1991. was Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR, one of Boris Yeltsin's closest associates. However, in February 1991, Isakov and five other deputies of the Supreme Council of the RSFSR (including the famous politician Svetlana Goryacheva) decisively opposed Yeltsin. They accused him of relying on a “narrow circle of close associates,” creating the basis for abuses, and most importantly, leading the country “to collapse and chaos.” In this regard, Isakov’s group demanded the convening of an extraordinary Congress of People’s Deputies of the RSFSR and the resignation of B. Yeltsin. Isakov’s actions caused a sharply negative reaction from “democratic circles.” The Democratic Russia movement announced the expulsion of Isakov and his comrades from its ranks, and in October 1991 he was removed from his post as chairman of the Council of the Republic. Despite this, right up to the Belovezhskaya Accords, Vladimir Isakov and his comrades continued the desperate struggle to preserve the Soviet Union. All this is described in the book presented to your attention. The author provides many dramatic details of the 1991 “rebellion against Yeltsin,” citing little-known documentary sources.
