One of the best novels by the writer Henry Rider Haggard (1856-1925), “The Fall of Jerusalem,” tells about the tragic fate of the first Christians. There are not many pages in world history comparable in their brightness to the Jewish War (66-73), the uprising of the Jews against Roman power, which, after a series of unheard-of fierce battles, ended with the fall of both Judea itself and Jerusalem and the destruction of the famous Temple. In the description of the ups and downs of the Jewish War, the author also interweaves a romantic narrative about the fate of two lovers - the Jewish Miriam and the Roman centurion Mark. Very organically complements the dramatic picture of the death of the great city, a small novel by Leonard Gren, full of vivid details and images, “The Last Days of Jerusalem.”
