The writer, Prince Sergei Golitsyn (1909–1989) is well known for his wonderful works for children, and his book “The Tale of the Russian Land” has been reprinted many times and is included in the school curriculum. Offered to the reader are “Notes of a Bespogonnik,” the latest creation of Sergei Mikhailovich, a book about the Great Patriotic War. The author, a military topographer, walked along fiery paths from Kovrov to the defeated Reichstag. Written sincerely, in excellent Russian, with love for friends and colleagues. Broad outlook, observation, and talent as a storyteller will provide the memoirs, in our opinion, with the most worthy place in Russian literature “about valor, about exploits, about glory.”
