XII-XIII centuries. passed under the sign of an underlying struggle between the two most powerful states in Europe - the French and English kingdoms. Intrigues, minor skirmishes, feudal conflicts and tournaments, competition in the fields of art and patronage of the arts formed an integral and familiar part of the existence of royal courts. But in the XIV century. the contradictions became too numerous to continue to be hidden under the guise of chivalrous and courtly relations. The arrogance of the rulers of France, who longed to subjugate the English kings to their will, caused a long-smoldering conflict to flare up. The war that began was long and bloody. On the battlefields, something happened that no one expected - the magnificent and arrogant French chivalry, the pride of all Europe, was crushed to dust by the arrows of English archers. Battle followed battle, but the end of the war was not in sight. Both countries were tired of fighting, but the rulers stubbornly refused to make peace. At some point, France found itself on the brink of destruction, its rightful king was in exile, and only a colossal effort returned the throne to the French dynasty.
