Dzharo does not remember his past - a child dying from beatings, he was found while on another planet and adopted by a childless married couple of researchers from an institute on Thanet, but the growing up Dzharo cannot feel like a person in Thanet society, where everything is subordinated to the desire for acquiring high status. His adoptive parents are killed in an explosion caused by a megalomaniac terrorist, and Jaro Fat sets out on a quest to discover his true origins - facing many dangers in a world lost on the edge of the Galaxy and delving into the forbidden depths of the past.
