Peter Watts (b. 1958) is a Canadian science fiction writer, aquatic biologist, and marine mammal specialist. He received his Master of Science from the University of Guelph and his PhD from the University of British Columbia. Taking the lessons and mood of cyberpunk and fusing them with sci-fi, he creates thoughtful, elegant and sophisticated works where brutal realism is intertwined with a wealth of fantastic imagery... In his works, the scientific component stands out especially clearly, forcing the brain to process information to the limit of its capabilities. And it coexists with no less merciless psychologism and a heavy, oppressive, extremely uncomfortable atmosphere of doom and powerlessness, where every step is a path into the unknown, and established ideas turn out to be false and do not reflect the true state of affairs, the truth that many of us afraid to look into your eyes.
