As a father-to-be, Boyd really needs a job. But the thought of going underground at Hobart Mine, into the dark labyrinth of tunnels where ore is mined, makes him increasingly uneasy. Maybe because his father died in the mines, maybe from something else. Something much worse. While cutting a new drift on the Eighth, lowest level of the mine, the miners discover a giant hole. Boyd, along with several volunteers, volunteers to study it. At a depth of 400 feet, they find a passage leading to a huge prehistoric cave. A petrified world. A prehistoric cemetery. Due to a collapse, they find themselves trapped there, in the darkness, among the dank shadows of the petrified world. But they soon realize that they are not alone. Something has awakened. Something ancient, creepy... and intelligent. And it is lonely.
