Dai Si-chie was born in China, and in 1984, having received a personal scholarship, he went to France, where he graduated from film school, became a director and settled permanently. However, he still thinks and writes about China. The first of Sze-chie's two novels, Balzac and the Chinese Dressmaker, was a huge success, was translated into many languages and formed the basis of a film he directed, which won the Un Certain Regard prize at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival. A special view that was developed under the influence of the traditions of centuries-old Chinese culture, European education and the realities of modern China. Si-chie's second novel, “The Di Complex,” which was awarded the Femina Prize, also received special attention.
“The Di Complex” is an ironic and parody novel. The name Dee refers to the famous character symbolizing the crossing of East and West, the legendary Judge Dee, considered the standard of wisdom, justice and integrity. And also to its artistic embodiment in the works of the connoisseur of Chinese sex Van Gulik, whose shadow looms behind the protagonist
