The historical work of Agathius was written under the strong influence of Procopius of Caesarea, however, if Procopius is concerned primarily with the rigor and reliability of the details of the narrative, then Agathius pays more attention to style and philosophical digressions. Agathias' work covers the period from 552 to 558 and contains descriptions of the wars with the Goths, Vandals, Franks and Huns, as well as the Persian wars and is a valuable source of information on the history, religion and ethnography of the contemporary period.
