The novel “The Murder Bureau” (1910) is not like the writer’s other works. The unfinished manuscript of the novel lay in the archives for a long time, and only in 1963 the American writer R. Fish, using the notes of Jack London, completed the book. “The Murder Bureau” is a detective story, but the philosophical content of the book also attracts attention. The killers, trying to justify their activities with good intentions, are portrayed by the writer as a community of crazy fanatics, seized by the delusional idea of administering justice with bloody hands. The exposure of Nietzscheanism and methods of individual terror clearly sounds. The novel was directed against American anarchists, but to a certain extent also against the mistakes of Russian Narodnaya Volya. The work is interesting because the Russian theme sounds with great force in it, echoes of the Russian revolution of 1905–1907 are heard, Russian writers and revolutionaries are mentioned, and even among the main The characters in the novel come from Russia.
