Early 2060s, the Russian research submarine Rubin, while exploring the subglacial lakes of Antarctica, discovers a deadly version of an advanced retro virus, which, as it is soon discovered, breaks free. Spreading through water, the pathogen uses any biomass for reproduction. Employees of the Russian Research Institute "Metalife" decide to create a universal platform of nanorobots capable of spreading like viruses and protecting people in a controlled manner by interacting with pathogens and the human immune system. The project was called "Panacea". Governments have to take inhumane and sometimes cruel measures in the fight against the “ruby virus,” and Metalife scientists do not have a plan “B”—most of the available resources are spent on developing the nanosystem. But what consequences will such a decision have? What will the Panacea project lead to?
