“Family Secret” is a subtle novel-reflection on love, on sacrifice in the name of love, on responsibility to loved ones and to oneself. The author of the book, Philippe Grimbert, is a famous French psychoanalyst. The novel received the Goncourt Lyceum Prize, in 2007 the book was filmed by the master of French cinema, Claude Miller, the film was awarded the Grand Prix of the Montreal Festival and was nominated for 12 Cesar awards. Little Philip, an introverted and sickly boy, invents an older brother for himself, a strong, smart and desperately brave. And this innocent childish fantasy annoys his parents even more than their son’s physical weakness. In any case, this is what it seems to Philip, who does not know that his parents are keeping a grave family secret. But all secrets sooner or later cease to be secrets, even those that your loved ones have been hiding from you for many years. Having penetrated the secret, Philip plunges into a surreal and terrible world, and his childhood is left behind. From now on, he will have to bear a heavy burden, from which no one can free himself.
