An outstanding French historian, member of the French Academy, author of a number of works on the history of Asia, created a detailed description of the life of the Great Steppe from the period of ancient times to the end of the 18th century. Possessing undoubted literary skill, the author created a vivid picture of the battles, life, morals, and customs of the steppe people, spoke about the conditions of their existence, the rise and fall of famous and forgotten dynasties, and the uniqueness of crafts and works of art. A special place in the story is occupied by three great Asian nomads - Attila, Genghis Khan and Tamerlane. While working on the research, the author drew on a colossal amount of sources from European, Chinese, Persian and other cultures. The book presents drawings of objects of steppe art.
