“The main thing remains eternal under any sky,” Father Alexander Men wrote to his correspondent in America nine days before his death. What is this “main thing”? This is what the entire book in front of you is about. This is the never-ending dialogue that Father Alexander conducts with all of us to this day, and the very title of the book reminds us of this. The book “Your Father Alexander” is built (if one can say so about chronologically ordered correspondence) on a dialogue of opposing styles: the author and my father. His letters are short and aphoristic. Clear, filigree thought; never edification, but an invitation to reflection. And Diana’s letters, stylistically close in modern Russian prose to Sergei Dovlatov in lightness and humor, even where the author touches on the most serious issues. Everything ordinary, vulgar - whether in words or in turns of thought - is alien to her. Speaking of style, I would also like to note the combination of extreme opposites in one phrase: “brilliant piglets”, “monstrous beauty”, “New York... like a country blanket”, “... wasn’t the Statue of Liberty out for a walk?”, “I’m still- he’s still a man, if you can think so to yourself”, “the ponytail of the state of Virginia”, “you are free, and your only friend is a dog”, “explained to me the rules of behavior - not to be afraid of the cleaning ladies”, “your own concepts, your own irons on your head”, “ the mayor is not Vasily Ivanovich from the City Council”, “I shrank... like our suitcase from a New York garbage dump”, “I found where to spend the money - to reduce evil” and other interesting phrases that you will find in this book. From the pages of “correspondence” stands a wise man, a great preacher and spiritual leader of Russia - Father Alexander Men, and at the same time - a lively, cheerful, charming, non-dogmatically dry priest. And the author, Diana Vinkovetskaya, is a person of a subtle soul, sparkling humor, apt, observant words. They are amazingly in tune, these two people, so happily united by fate
