For many today, the scriptures of that time, now called the Old Testament, are an archaic legacy of Judaism. It is considered invalid and unnecessary for Christians. But the early church did not consider itself separate from Judaism; they believed that they had become involved in the fulfillment of the promises and aspirations of the fathers. Acts 23:6 When Paul learned that there were one part of the Sadducees and the other of the Pharisees, he cried out to the Sanhedrin: Men and brethren! I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee; I am being judged for hoping for the resurrection of the dead. Paul was not a cunning liar when he called himself a Pharisee. He remained under the law of Christ and, in lawful truth, blameless. 1 Corinthians 9:21: “to those who are strangers to the law, as one who is stranger to the law, not being without the law before God, but under the law of Christ, so that he may win those who are strangers to the law Phil 3:4-6. Very often, Paul’s quotes are interpreted outside of his personality and worldview. But we must understand that Rav Shaul tried to talk about what was necessary, without focusing on the obvious and well-known at the time in which he lived.
