Michelangelo Buonarroti is one of the greatest men of the Renaissance. This is what a contemporary wrote about his birth: “And the All-Good Lord of heaven mercifully turned his gaze to the earth and saw people vainly imitating the greatness of nature, and their conceit was even further from the truth than darkness from the light. And he deigned to save from such errors , to send to earth a genius capable of absolutely all the arts.” But Michelangelo was destined to be born in a cruel age. And it is unknown why he was in great pain. From the torment of creativity, when a stone came to life under his chisel, or from the crimes of the powerful of this world that reigned around him, about which he wrote: “When shame and crime reign, / Not feeling, not seeing is a relief.” Karel Schulz - Czech writer and poet , who left a legacy to readers of poems, stories, librettos, works based on folklore, and his main work - the historical novel "Stone and Pain". The work consists of two parts: the first book, “In the Gardens of Medicine,” was published in 1942, the second, “The Papal Mass,” was published in 1943, after the writer’s death. The novel remained unfinished, but the work that Schultz managed to do is of great value and interest for anyone who wants to learn more about the life and work of Michelangelo Buonarroti.
