The renowned historian and professor at Birbeck College, University of London, Nikolaus Wachsman, has researched and presented the complete history of the Nazi concentration camps from 1933 to 1945. Based on authentic documentary materials about the camps Auschwitz, Dachau, Sachsenhausen, Buchenwald, Mauthausen, Flossenbürg, Ravensbrück and many others (twenty-two large camps and more than a thousand satellite camps entangled Germany and Europe), the author presented the history of creation, goals, principles, structure and the control system of this monstrous misanthropic machine for the destruction of people, paying special attention to the incredibly cruel conditions of detention of prisoners in them. Concluding his colossal work, the author expresses the idea that “the concentration camp system was a great perverter of values, is a history of inhuman mutations of conscience, making violence, torture and murder the norm.” And he insists: the modern world has no right to forget about this. The appendix provides data on camp prisoners from 1935 to 1945.
