“The Bride and the Groom” is a novel about village elders who have carried a high feeling of love throughout their lives. Lenin Prize laureate Yegor Isaev wrote a preface to this work: “As unexpected as it is, it is so familiar at the same time. I personally saw myself in the title of A. Sanzharovsky’s story in my distant Voronezh childhood. In this phrase there is both mischievous and serious - it’s like spring before summer - and everything, in fact, in this short story is like spring before summer, in the feeling of approaching autumn and winter. The language of the story is almost proverbial - there is a lot behind the word, above the word, in its depths. As the tongue dictates, as the feeling commands, so character arises. Two characters, two destinies, but how close they are to each other, close in heart. I want to love, to believe, and this is already a lot both for life and for a writer.”
