It’s hard for me to say what “Free Fleet” is about. It's easier for me to say what he is not. You will not find complex twists of philosophical thought or deep morality here. All the thoughts and all the morality that is present in the text are simple and uncomplicated, like a blow to the face, and boil down to the fact that loyalty to your beliefs, friends and word makes you an armor-piercing projectile capable of demolishing any obstacles. There are no characters here who order mineral water in a tavern so as not to set a bad example for children and even shoot themselves in the balls and comment on this exclusively in correct literary language. The heroes here drink, smoke, swear, have sex and generally behave like normal people, and not distilled role models. And this is definitely not soul-saving reading, since of all the “servants of God” only those who try to follow the tenets of their religion not in words, but in deeds are described with sympathy. If it seemed to you that the previous sentence contained some kind of contradiction, then take a closer look at the words and deeds of the spiritual advocates around you. So what is there in this book? There is a world there, sometimes strange, sometimes painfully similar to ours. There is evil. Not chthonic, dark and absolute, but simple, sometimes primitive and understandable evil, perpetrated by the hands of people who decided that they were superior to others. And there is good. Not the unctuous, bright good that takes the villains by the ear and leads them to re-educate, but the good done by the hands of people who are tired of looking at this crap and have taken up arms. Because neither tolerance, nor understanding, nor forgiveness, but only thoughtful and methodical shooting of thieves, murderers and moral monsters makes the world brighter and cleaner. There are also adventures, a ship, the sea, distant countries and strange islands. There is a motley team, where no one cares about who or where someone is from, who is ready to stand in the same ranks with them and together overcome the difficulties and dangers of the path to distant warm seas. There are shootouts, robberies, cunning moves and biting phrases before the shot puts an end to the confrontation. If you like this kind of thing, then welcome aboard.
