Since 1965, de Villiers wrote spy novels, which brought him wide fame. He is the author of the spy series "SAS" (Son Altesse Serenissime - "His Serene Highness") with the main character - a freelance CIA employee, the Austrian prince Malko Linge. The SAS series has been published with a circulation of about 120 million copies. Some critics classify the work of Gerard de Villiers as “tabloid literature,” but his books arouse interest with a very accurate description and sometimes prediction of political events. In 1980, the writer in one of his novels described the assassination attempt on Anwar Sadat, who was killed a year later. In the novel “Killing Gandhi,” published in 1986 in France, the author was able to predict the events that took place in 1991. Some of de Villiers’ works are connected with Russia. So the novel “Le Piege de Bangkok” (“Bangkok Trap”, 2009) is partly based on facts from the biography of Russian entrepreneur Viktor But. He wrote the novel “Polonium 210” (“Polonium-210”, 2007). The writer’s latest novel, “La Vengeance du Kremlin” (“The Kremlin’s Revenge”), published in May 2013, is also connected with Russia. As a publisher, editor and compiler of book series, de Villiers has published many books by various authors (including collective pseudonyms) in a variety of genres and styles, from science fiction and fantasy to thrillers and erotica. Moreover, some of the books were published with his name on the cover, although he was not the author. According to the deceased's lawyer, the novelist died on the night of October 31 to November 1, 2013 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. His death was reported by the BBC. Books by Gerard de Villiers have been translated into Russian, English, German, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, Polish, Romanian, Japanese and other languages and published in more than thirty countries.
