As sources, the author used the works of the Venerable Bede, Frutolf-Ekkehard, Adam of Bremen, Helmold of Bossau, etc. The last parts of Albert’s “Annals” are a completely original work and contain information on the history of Lower Saxony, general German history within the Holy Roman Empire, about dynastic ties between the German aristocracy and the Russian grand ducal house, about the Horde invasion.
