The book by the Hungarian mythologist and classicist Karl Kerenyi contains an attempt to reconstruct the legendary Eleusinian Mysteries, based on an analysis of the results of archaeological excavations, ancient literature and mythology, in particular the myth of Demeter and Persephone, works of art and the history of religion. In his research, the author relies not only on Greek mythology, but also draws parallels with the mythologies of other peoples.
