Dulma is the daughter of a hereditary blacksmith from the Tunkinskaya Valley. Her grandfather was a tumershe-darkhan - an ordinary blacksmith. Dulma's father, Oshor Radnaev, became a mungeshe-darkhan, a respected silversmith. Dulma's only lover never returned from the war, and she had to marry someone else. Dulma's grandson, Munko, was born useless to anyone. While his mother drank continuously, the child was left to his own devices. A difficult childhood, hunger, and a feeling of uselessness affected the development of Munko’s personality. He is not attached to anyone in this world, except for his craft - jewelry making. One day, Munko is asked for help in finding the owner of a silver knife made in Buryatia. The initiator is a certain Hannah Johnson. Her grandfather lost his memory after the war and until the end of his life he never remembered where he really came from and who his relatives were. Only before his death did he remember everything, but he had no strength left to talk about it. On his deathbed, he asked his granddaughter to return the relic to his homeland.
