The book by M. Voznesensky is an independent journalistic investigation of one of the tragedies of the Soviet submarine fleet. Under mysterious circumstances in March 1968, the missile-carrying submarine K-129 with a crew of 97 people perished off the Hawaiian Islands. The very fact and circumstances of the death of the submarine, which had nuclear weapons on board, were hidden for a long time in the USSR. But in the West, journalists wrote in detail about what happened. Especially in 1975, an article in the Los Angeles Times created a lot of noise, revealing details of a unique secret CIA operation undertaken to raise the boat.
