In his new book, the author returns to the topic of the heroic defense of Liepaja and the Libau naval base in the first days of the Great Patriotic War and, relying on a wider range of sources, offers the reader a significantly expanded and clarified picture of events. This story is unique in that commanders, Red Army soldiers, Red Navy men and border guards of three defense departments of the USSR, as well as a militia from the residents of Liepaja, took part in the defense of the city. Only following the order did the Soviet soldiers make a breakthrough and leave the city.
