How did modern dance appear in Switzerland, how did it develop and achieve recognition? Researchers Anne Davier and Annie Suquet spoke with representatives of several generations of Swiss dancers, choreographers and spectators, tracing all stages of the development of modern dance - from classical ballet schools to performances of recent decades. In this book we find ourselves in Chiasso, Zurich, Geneva, Neuchâtel, Basel and other Swiss cities, where we get acquainted with different directions of modern dance culture - from classical dance in French Switzerland to “Ausdrukstan” in German. Modern dance has radically changed the conservative Swiss culture of the past, and, apparently, the process of artistic modernization continues to gain momentum. Anne Davier is an art critic, director of the Association of Contemporary Dance (ADC), and editor-in-chief of ADC magazine. Annie Suquet is a dance historian, independent researcher, and former lecturer in the history and aesthetics of dance at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts of Geneva and the University of Paris VIII.
