Alexander Vasilyevich Sukhovo-Kobylin (1817-1903) is deservedly considered one of the most talented playwrights and satirists, although he only wrote three plays - the trilogy “Krechinsky’s Wedding”, “The Affair” and “The Death of Tarelkin”. Alexander Vasilyevich became addicted to literature and philosophy from a young age, but tragic circumstances forced him to turn to literary activity. The writer was accused of the death of his lover, Louise Simon-Demanche, and was under investigation for seven years. Grief from the loss, indignation at the unfair accusation, experiences associated with bureaucratic arbitrariness and the trial are reflected in his famous trilogy. The book includes all of the author’s works: a trilogy of plays and an article on philosophy.
