Anatoly Chernyaev. Joint outcome. Diary of two eras. 1972–1991 M., ROSSPEN, 2008. 1047 pp. This book is a detailed diary, which was kept for 20 years by a man who worked in the apparatus of the highest authorities in the USSR. He personally knew many in the leadership of the CPSU in the 70s and 80s. Here in detail are his impressions of Brezhnev, Suslov, Kirilenko, Ponomarev and others. The diary, very frank and critical, from inside the regime testifies to how and why it was rapidly moving towards its inexorable death, how and why attempts to save a great state on the paths of democratization and perestroika ended in failure. The book contains many experiences and reflections of an intellectual of those times, concerned about the fate of his country.
