Now much has been written about Astrid Lindgren's childhood and youth, about how she turned from a modest housewife into a famous writer, but until recently almost nothing was known about the period when she worked in publishing. Meanwhile, Astrid devoted 24 years of her life to this work, was Sweden's first editor of children's books and one of the most successful publishers. When she joined the small, modest publishing house Rabén & Sjögren, it was on the verge of bankruptcy, and five years later it became one of the leading ones in Sweden. Having already become famous and receiving large fees from the sale of her own works, Astrid continued to come to the office every day as an ordinary employee and treated this work with great responsibility. It was a very busy time in her life, but Astrid did not advertise this activity and did not talk about it in interviews. Kjell Bolund collected material for the book literally bit by bit, based on letters from Astrid Lindgren, asking her colleagues and writers with whom she communicated, carefully comparing this information with minutes of company management meetings, annual reports, catalogs of new book releases and press publications. Now we have the opportunity to discover Astrid Lindgren from a completely new side.
