The research we bring to your attention is devoted to the religious culture of the Christovers, or “Khlysty,” Russian mystical sectarians who arose at the turn of the 17th–18th centuries. The Christians are an atypical example of a religious community that arose within the framework of Russian Orthodoxy. What was atypical in the religious culture of the Christians was, first of all, their ritual practice, which combined the singing of church prayers with spiritual verses and the reading of the Bible with ecstatic whirling. The book is based on the desire of its author to describe in as much detail as possible the religious practice of the first communities of Christians and to find possible sources of its individual elements. To analyze the context in which the culture of Christ believers arises and functions, studies devoted to folk religious practices, Old Belief, the phenomena of foolishness and klikota, practices of self-flagellation, spiritual verses and forms of liturgical regulations were involved.
