Dr. Nodar Jean (Dzhindzhikhashvili) was born in Georgia into the family of a rabbi (grandfather) and a lawyer (father). In 1963 he graduated from the Faculty of Philology of Tbilisi University, and in 1966 from Moscow VGIK. In 1968 he defended his PhD thesis on aesthetics, and in 1977 he became the youngest Doctor of Philosophy in the history of the USSR. He worked at the Institute of Philosophy of the USSR Academy of Sciences, at Moscow State University and Tomsk State University. Author of many studies on philosophy and cultural history, aesthetics and psychology. Since 1980 he has lived in the USA. A professor of philosophy, he was awarded the 1981 Rockefeller Prize for the Humanities. The documentary film “The Last Journey”, created by him from his own photographs, won a number of important prizes at international film festivals. The American press calls him “an amazingly versatile and sophisticated intellectual,” and the leading English magazine The Sunday Times wrote in connection with one of his works on Jewry: “This athlete-like scientist is far from an ordinary person: thanks to his imagination and perseverance, he has made There is more Jewish culture in the USSR than a whole year of endless mass demonstrations and speeches.” All materials in the book, with rare exceptions, are translated from different languages by the author. Excerpts from the Bible were also newly translated and edited by him.
