Nina Matveevna Sorotokina is one of the few truly popular authors of the historical genre in modern Russia. She wrote the famous “Midshipmen” (the novels “Three from the Navigation School”, “Date in St. Petersburg”, “Chancellor”, “The Law of Pairs”), based on which Svetlana Druzhinina first shot a four-part television film, and then two full-length films. Other historical novels: in the dilogy “The Empress’s Favorite” and “The Beautiful Envoy”, as well as in the novel “The Courier from Hamburg” the action takes place in the writer’s favorite 18th century; in the novel “The Crown of Omnipotence, or the Wife of Ivan the Great” - during the time of Ivan III; in the novel “Under a Common Umbrella” - in the twentieth century.
