When remembering the works of the 18th century French artist Antoine Watteau (1684–1721), his charming small paintings depicting “gallant festivities,” as contemporaries once called the genre of painting in which the artist worked, come to life. His scenes with costumed figures of gentlemen and ladies in the green parks of Paris and its environs are similar to well-choreographed open-air theatrical performances. Watteau’s painting carries an echo of the festivities held in the parks of the palaces of the era of the “Grand Siécle” of the Sun King - Louis XIV, and a response to fundamental changes in the attitude and purpose of the artist of the new century that has begun - the Age of Enlightenment. She personifies the gallant XVIII. The album contains about 100 paintings. The excellent print quality makes it a wonderful gift for art lovers.
