The book by retired lieutenant colonel, candidate of historical sciences Sergienko Anatoly Mikhailovich covers the sixty-five-year history of the 23rd Guards BELGORODSKY Red Banner Long-Range Aviation Regiment. Created in June 1938, it took an active part in the liberation campaigns of the Red Army in Western Belarus, Northern Bukovina and in the war with Finland. From June 22, 1941 to May 9, 1945, the regiment took part in the Great Patriotic War. Bombing strikes on various enemy targets, landing airborne troops and reconnaissance and sabotage groups, transporting personnel and cargo to ground units of various fronts - these were the main types of combat activities of the regiment during the war. For active participation in the battles on the Kursk Bulge, the regiment, the only one in the USSR Air Force, received the honorary name BELGORODSKY. In the post-war years, personnel were among the first in the Air Force to master new aviation equipment - helicopters. The crews of the regiment took part in hostilities in Afghanistan, were at the forefront of the socialist community for several years, and served in the GDR. The book is written on the basis of archival documents and memories of several generations of regiment veterans.
